Not YourS CABARET

After receiving an incredible commission from ARC, Stockton as part of their Make New Work Programme, Roisin has created her most ambitious show to date - responding to the provocation #Women - She Was Walking Home, she has created a cabaret/theatre/circus show with a brilliant ensemble cast and created an open access beginners burlesque troupe, all performers will have lived experience of sexual violence.

Roisin hosts the party, the show, the group, bringing a narrative and theatricality that isn’t typically built into cabaret shows and a raucousness and personality that comes from cabaret into a traditional theatre space.
Not Yours is a sensory feast, with jaw-dropping circus, pole, tight-wire, hair-hanging, drag and burlesque!

The beginners burlesque troupe, built a troupe from scratch for 6 weeks. We came together for 3 hours on a Saturday, from Jan to Feb and they opened the show at Stockton. Some started with no dance or performance experience, feeling extremely distant from their bodies and the idea of standing on stage, in your underwear was incredibly daunting. We worked holisitically to build up self esteem, explore what sexuality looked like to us, trusting our creative instict and together we co-devised and choreographed a brilliantly rageful and witchy piece of burlesque as a troupe! They were a vital part of the performance, and heavily informed the creation of the whole show.

The show premiered at ARC on 15th February as their new season launch, and will be running at Brighton Fringe May 28th - June 1st.

This is not really a show about sexual violence or trauma, it is a show about what happens after. Because there is an after, and recovery does exist.

Not Your Baby, Not Your Object, Not Your Victim.
